The Regional Consultations for the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) for Africa and the Adjacent Island States will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 27-29 January 2020.

The purpose of the workshop will be to:

  • Communicate the purpose and expected results of the Decade to all stakeholders, and brief them on proposed arrangements for the Decade, including structure, themes and governance, and solicit feedbacks
  • Identify Knowledge gaps and regional ocean science priorities for the 2030 Agenda and the AU’s Agenda 2063
  • Engage and consult the ocean community concerning the implementation plan for the Decade (for example, identifying priorities in research or in capacity development and training)
  • Identify opportunities for investment and resource mobilization for the Decade
  • Identify existing and desired partnerships/networks/initiatives in Ocean Observing Systems, data and information systems that should be aligned to the Decade

The results of the regional consultations will feed into the global planning for the Decade.
