Subject: Promotion of the new FLAIR Fellowship Programme
Dear ICSU ROA
I am pleased to share with you news of an exciting new fellowship scheme the Royal Society has launched in partnership with the African Academy of Sciences, supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund. On 21 May 2018, we launched the Future Leaders – African Independent Researchers (FLAIR) Fellowships.
FLAIR fellowships are for talented African early career researchers who have the potential to become leaders in their field. These fellowships provide the opportunity to build an independent research career in a sub-Saharan African institution and to undertake cutting-edge scientific research that will address global challenges facing developing countries. Each FLAIR Fellowship will offer generous funding, alongside a programme of support to develop fellows as independent research leaders.
The inaugural call is open until the 20 June 2018 and successful awards will start on 1 April 2019. More information and details of how to apply can be found on our website, www.royalsociety.org/flair<http://www.royalsociety.org/flair>.
I have also attached a flyer and poster with more information about the Fellowships, as well as a copy of the press release. It would be great if you are able to share this new opportunity with your contacts.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at flair at royalsociety.org<mailto:flair at royalsociety.org> or on +44 (0)20 7451 2583.
