Date: 24–28 November 2025
Venue: CURAT, Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Côte d’Ivoire
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC) through its Sub-Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States (IOCAFRICA), in collaboration with the Centre Universitaire de Recherche et d’Application en Télédétection (CURAT), is pleased to announce a regional training course on Advanced Remote Sensing Applied to Oceanography.
This hands-on training will build participants’ capacity to acquire, process, and analyze oceanographic data derived from satellite and in-situ observations. Participants will learn to apply advanced remote sensing techniques to monitor and model key ocean variables—such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll concentration, sea level, and coastal dynamics—supporting evidence-based marine and coastal management in Africa.
Target Audience:
Early- and mid-career ocean professionals, researchers, and practitioners from universities, government agencies, and regional institutions engaged in ocean observation, coastal management, and marine spatial planning.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Advanced processing of satellite oceanographic data
- Integration of EO data with in-situ observations
- Practical applications in marine ecosystem monitoring and climate studies
- Tools for decision support in coastal and ocean governance
Working Language: English and French
Application Deadline: 30th October 2025
