Dear colleagues,

The Mami Wata Project, and the Abidjan Convention, together with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and partners of the PADDLE Project (Consortium led by the French National Institute For Sustainable Development) will be organizing a workshop on Community Knowledge and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) for the Portuguese speaking community of Africa scheduled to take place in Mindelo, Cape Verde from 5-7 February 2018.

The workshop will allow participants to have a global presentation of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) history and first implementation. Scientific community in Cape Verde and in Africa has had little access to MSP practices and this workshop will be an occasion to share experiences on this matter. The place and role of local community will be underlined.

IOCAFRICA will provide support to a very limited number of participants from government institutions in Portuguese speaking member states of IOC in Africa to participate in the workshop.

Nominations (including detailed CV, justification, and letter of support from institution) should be sent to m.odido at unesco.org not later than 10 January 2018.

I take this opportunity to wish all of you and your families the very best in the festive season, and Good Health and Peace of Mind in the New Year 2018.

Best regards,

Mika.
