Please note that the registration will close on 20 December 2019.
Details of the parallel Working Groups during the workshop are as follows:
§ WG1: A clean ocean whereby sources of pollution are identified, quantified and reduced and pollutants removed from the ocean
§ WG2: A healthy and resilient ocean whereby marine ecosystems are mapped and protected, multiple impacts, including climate change, are measured and reduced, and provision of ocean ecosystem services is maintained
§ WG3: A predicted ocean whereby society has the capacity to understand current and future ocean conditions, forecast their change and impact on human wellbeing and livelihoods
§ WG4: A safe ocean whereby human communities are protected from ocean hazards and where the safety of operations at sea and on the coast is ensured
§ WG5: A sustainably harvested and productive ocean ensuring the provision of food supply and alternative livelihoods
§ WG6: A transparent and accessible ocean whereby all nations, stakeholders and citizens have access to ocean data and information, technologies and have the capacities to inform their decisions

Subject: Regional Consultations for the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) for Africa and the Adjacent Island States, 27-29 January 2020, Nairobi, Kenya
The Regional Consultations for the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) for Africa and the Adjacent Island States will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 27-29 January 2020.
The purpose of the workshop will be to:
§ Communicate the purpose and expected results of the Decade to all stakeholders, and brief them on proposed arrangements for the Decade, including structure, themes and governance, and solicit feedbacks
§ Identify Knowledge gaps and regional ocean science priorities for the 2030 Agenda and the AU’s Agenda 2063
§ Engage and consult the ocean community concerning the implementation plan for the Decade (for example, identifying priorities in research or in capacity development and training)
§ Identify opportunities for investment and resource mobilization for the Decade
§ Identify existing and desired partnerships/networks/initiatives in Ocean Observing Systems, data and information systems that should be aligned to the Decade
The results of the regional consultations will feed into the global planning for the Decade.
