For information:

Subject: Launch of the New IOC Capacity Development Web Site: http://www.ioc-cd.org

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of the new IOC Capacity Development website on http://www.ioc-cd.org after the adoption by the IOC Assembly at its 28th session (June 2015) of the IOC Capacity Development Strategy, 2015-2021. Adopted through Resolution XXVIII-2, the text is published as IOC/INF-1332 – http://www.iode.org/cdstrategy. The Vision Statement of the Strategy reads:

“Through international cooperation, IOC assists its Member States to collectively achieve the IOC’s high-level objectives (HLOs), with particular attention to ensuring that all Member States have the capacity to meet them”.

Resolution XXVIII-2, inter alia, urges Member States to:

“mobilize the knowledge, personnel, infrastructural and financial resources to support IOC’s catalytic role in helping Member States achieve these goals”.

To fully document the IOC Capacity Development Strategy and its implementation, the IOC CD website provides concrete details of the Strategy, showcases approaches to capacity development in the IOC global programmes and in the regions, as well as initiatives of partner organizations.
Gradually the site will also build a repository of, and links to, sources of information on capacity development opportunities in the areas of activities of the Commission and a calendar of IOC CD-related events. The site should become the first place to go when searching for training or other capacity-development opportunities in Ocean sciences, services and observations. Through this website the Commission intends to promote networking between the global ocean research community. Soon it will also be possible to subscribe to receive announcements of opportunities from the IOC Capacity-development website. The website is in English at this initial stage. Language versions will be considered subject to fundraising. […]
